Before I introduce to you the newest member of our family I have to give you a little back ground detail prior to her arrival. So last Wednesday I was having some consistent contractions all day, they just never intensified enough to get this girl to come, then all was quiet on Thursday and Friday (not too happy about that).
Come Saturday morning the contractions were back and a little meaner then the ones on Wednesday, good news to a woman who was almost 38 weeks with really no more room to grow. My mom had been on a week get away with several of her sisters and was on her way home that afternoon with a flight that would be making a pit stop in Albuquerque and because I felt like this was "it" she had decided on just getting off her plane.
Well as soon as I couldn't get a hold of my mom by phone, the contractions started tapering off...I seriously wanted to cry. So I kept a close watch on the clock and as soon as I thought my mom's plane had landed I was calling her phone and leaving messages to stay on her plane and just go home. When I wasn't leaving messages I was praying that she'd be prompted to check her phone in time. Well she didn't get that prompting and got off her plane.
I was super worried and stressing out all Saturday night, things are tight for just about everyone right now and I knew my mom had given up needed subing jobs to stay for a birth that was NOT taking place! But my dear mother told me "I didn't receive a prompting to check my phone so let's just have faith that this little girl comes this weekend."
Sunday early morning Lily came in complaining that her ear hurt, after ward choir practice at our house was over (I'm the chorister) Eric ran Lily to urgent care and a couple hours later he had medicine for her double ear infection. Mom, Caleb and I went to our 1:00 o'clock Sacrament meeting where I was able to direct the choir in their musical number and say the closing prayer for the meeting. Afterwards we left, as Caleb was coughing pretty bad and I was starting to have contractions again.
Got home had some lunch then went for a walk with Eric until I felt like my feet were gonna fall off :) Got home around 4:45 p.m. and was looking online for ways to keep labor progressing once it's started when my mom came and asked me if I'd like to eat dinner soon and that's when my water broke!
Eric grabbed my bag (which I'd packed two weeks ago), we kissed the kids and left them with mom. 20 minutes later we arrived at the hospital (5:20 p.m.), I was soaked and super embarrassed about walking in looking like I'd wet myself, Eric kept telling me "who cares you're gonna have a baby!!"
Once in the very fashionable hospital gown, Eric and I waited a good 10 minutes (filled with lots of powerful contractions) till someone came back to check on me. 5 more minutes later my mid-wife came and checked to see how far I was dilated ... a 7. After three more strong contractions I was ready to push. At one point a nurse was trying to prep me for an IV and thankfully Eric came to my rescue and told them that I didn't want one (my thoughts were if I'm not getting an Epidural I'm not getting an IV there's no point). So they just had it at hand and ready in case I ended up needing one for an emergency. Thankfully I didn't, with no complications Kylie Kim joined our family at 6:11 p.m. November 11th 2012. She was two weeks early and still weighed in at an impressive 7.5 lbs and measured 20.5 inches long, so she was plenty big :)
Presenting Kylie Kim Anderson!
Caleb was more interested in the hospital bed phone then in his new sister :) Lily however was super excited about holding Kylie.
So in the end it was a HUGE blessing that my Mom never checked her phone and that Kylie didn't come until after we got medicine for Lily's ear infections. My mom definitely didn't end up wasting her time by getting off her plane. She spent the whole past week doing everything from grocery shopping, cooking wonderful meals, cleaning house, keeping the wash moving, changing Caleb's dirty diapers, reading books to the kids, taking them on outings, making play dough for them, allowing me to take naps and basically just being wonderful!! I love you Mom, thank you so much for everything you did for me and my family!
